Black Yaya :: Music Monday

So about 7 years ago, I was dragged out on a Friday or Saturday night by my good friend Alida to a “social club” in downtown Calgary called BrokenCity. I remember not being excited about being put into a social situaion where I don’t know most of the people but I knew Alida wasn’t going to let me bail because I’m an introverted lame-oh. Luckily, I’ve got some great friends. I remember the venue was super small, and I had no idea what to expect from the musical guest we had all come to see. There was some opening act that we all enjoyed so-so. We were all hanging around chatting over of drinks of pop and water and then, the main act came on. His name was Montag and he was so very very different then anything I’d ever heard on the radio. I was basically the only person on the floor, about 3 feet in front of him, dancing like Carlton from Fresh Prince. I loooved it! He was this one-man band with a voice synthesizer, a small toy-like piano, and I maybe an accordian? I was literally on clound nine!

Since then, Alida has continued to enlighten me with good music and as well as my other good friend Layla. See, I’ve got these two hipster best friends who know good music like nobody else I know. Getting together with them and sharing music we’ve all found is one of my favorite things to do!

I have been contemplating a regular weekly post for about two years now. I have never been able to come up with something that I know I’d be happy to keep posting about though. When a couple of friends asked me for some new music recently, I figured I can share the stuff I’ve found with any of you wonderful people who stop by my little home on the web who may be interested.

So I present to you, in no particular order, the first installment of Music Monday.

First up, because it is currently 13 degrees in Edmonton right now. Can I get a whoop whoop? I thought I’d share a favorite upbeat fun tune you can spring clean too!

Happy Monday everyone!
